Marketing Intern: Lisa

blog_intern_lisa

Lisa joins us as a Summer Intern in our Marketing department while on break from her studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. As an intern, she’ll spend a couple of months trying to organize what marketing has spent the last year messing up. Let’s all wish her good luck.

What are you studying at school?
I just finished my first year at McGill and I’m studying environment biodiversity and conservation with a minor in communication studies.

Where are you originally from?
My parents are from St. Petersburg, Russia but I was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa.

What attracted you to Backblaze?
My older brother, Yev, has worked for Backblaze for a number of years and he recommended that I apply for an internship and what better internship to have than one in Silicon Valley with your brother’s friends and coworkers!

How did you get into computers?
Watching Yev play videogames my entire childhood definitely opened up my eyes to computers. It was only when he would let me play Worms Armageddon, Grand Theft Auto, and Sims that I really started to figure them out. I also taught myself basic HTML a few years ago in order to make some graphics look pretty on a webpage for a website.

Favorite place you’ve traveled?
I studied abroad for a summer in Seoul, South Korea. Living with a host family and learning Korean with other students was an experience I won’t forget for a long time!

Favorite hobby?
Researching actors and actresses I find interesting and watching all of their movies or TV shows. It’s a little bit of an obsession at times, but I’m proud to say that I have seen every film and TV show that Henry Cavill has been in!

Anything else you’d like to tell us?
I’m a huge Marilyn Monroe fan and am currently trying to make my way through watching all of her films, biopics, and documentaries about her. I highly recommend “Some Like it Hot!”
